Wahrscheinlich sind die « verborgenen Zitate » zu Marcel Proust Legion, jene also, die er nach seinem allzu frühen Tod in der Welt-Literatur hinterlassen hat und noch immer hinterläßt. Diese
aufzuspüren und sie systematisch in ein (nennen wir es forsch und zuversichtlich) « Internationales Lexikon der Proust-Zitate » zu ordnen; wäre doch eine reizvolle Aufgabe aller Proustianer [Proustianer aller Länder vereinigt euch!]!
So möchte ich zur Illustration einen exemplarischen Anfang machen:

1. ERIK ORSENNAs « Inselsommer » (Dt; 2002 bei Hanser) ist eine wundervolle Parabel über die Unmöglichkeit zu übersetzen, hier explizit Nabokovs « Ada oder das Verlangen » Nebenbei bemerkt, es spielt zudem auf der Finistère-Insel Brehat unter tatkräftiger Mithilfe der dortigen Inselbewohner... Hier also findet sich folgendes Zitat: « … an Erinnerungen nippen... Lektüre von Proust, die einen Geschmack von Türkischen Honig hinterließ (sic!) »

2. In der deutschen Fassung von VLADIMIR NABOKOVs « Ada oder das Verlangen (Dt. 1983 bei Rowohlt) liest sich dann auf Seite 19 das so:
« In späteren Jahren mochte er Proust nicht wieder lesen (wie er auch das parfümierte Gummi türkischer Paste nicht mehr genießen mochte) , ohne eine Woge des Überdrusses und das Raspeln griesigen Sodbrennens zu verspüren; und dennoch blieb seine Lieblingsstelle jene, die den Namen « Guermantes » betraf und mit deren violetten Schein das angrenzende Ultramarin im Prisma seines Bewußtseins verschmolz, Vans artistische Vanitas angenehm anstachelnd. »

3. ANDREW CRUMEY schrieb 2000 seinen « Mr. Mee » (!) [bei Picador, London] Auf Deutsch (2003, bei Dumont) lautet dann der Titel « Rousseau und die geilen Pelztierchen » (über deren übesetzerische Treffsicherheit man berechtigt streiten kann...) Aber egal, auf Seite 65 f findet sich darin folgendes Zitat: « Stellen Sie sich zum Beispiel einmal einen anderen Schriftsteller vor, der gebeten wird, sein Werk in einem Satz zusammenzufassen, und daraufhin sagte, er schreibe nur einen einzigen Roman, der von einer Person namens Ich handelt, die nicht immer ich bin. Wäre das eine befriedigende Zusammenfassung, eine gute Werbung? Allerdings werden wir diesen Autor niemals kennenlernen, denn Proust verstarb vor langer Zeit. Als ich noch jünger war und noch und noch abstrakter und heiterer schwärmte, war der wunderbarste meiner Träume, einmal Proust zu begegnen; dafür hätte ich mich sogar in den Himmel begeben. Heute , da ich den Punkt, auf den Proust hinauswollte, besser verstehe, denke ich anders; doch « jene Person, namens 'Ich' , die nicht immer ICH bin « , eine Figur, die man ab und zu in uns allen wiederfinden kann und die von erheblich größerer Bedeutung ist als der Erzähler von Auf der Suche nach der verlorenen Zeit (dem unvollendeten roman, auf den sich Prousts Bemerkung bezog) , diese Figur sollte mich in den folgenden Wochen ziemlich stark beschäftigen. »

4. LUIGI GUARNIERI läßt in seinem dokumentarischen Roman « Das Doppelleben des Vermeer » (dt. Ausgabe erschienen 2005 bei Kunstmann) seinen Protagonisten den « Superfälscher » zu JAN VERMEER folgende Erklärung zu seiner Anklage abgeben: … « Charles Swann aus Marcel Prousts Recherche , der sich in dem Roma n mit der Absicht trüge, eine Studie über Vermeer zu verfassen, sei überzeugt, dass das mythologische Gemälde Diana und die Nymphe - vom Mauritshuis als Werk des Nicolas Maes erworben – in Wirklichkeit ein Vermeer sei. Bedauerlicherweise für Proust und Swann jedoch und für all die schönen Theorien , die über die Kunst aufgestellt würden, handle es sich bei dem Gemälde um eine Fälschung. » Dann in den letzten Zeile resümiert der Verfasser Guarneri « er war tot. Wahrscheinlich ein Schlaganfall. So trat Han van Meegeren alias VM auf die gleiche von der Weltbühne ab wie die literarische Figur Bergotte, der vor einem kleinen gelben Mauerstück auf der Ansicht von Delft ins bessere Leben eingegangen ist, so beschrieben auf einer Seite von MarcelProust , in Paris , an einem fernen Abend im Mai des Jahres 1921. «

4. STANISLAW IGNACY WITKIEWICZ, genannt WITKACY, läßt in seinem 1927 (!) erschienenen Roman « Pozeganie jesieni » [auf Dt. Erschienen unter dem Titel « abschied vom Herbst », 1987 bei Piper] läßt seinen Protagonisten Atanazy Bazakbal, der sich zu einer Abendgesellschaft bei Hela Bertz aufmacht, zu eben jener sagen : « Ich möchte kommen und mit Ihnen über Proust und Valéry sprechen und so weiter «

ICh schreibe gerade einen Absatz meiner Hausarbeit zu Freundschaften in der Recherche und bin dabei einige Beispiele aufzulisten, in der Freundshcaften scheitern, dabei fällt mir die Freundschaft St Loup-Marcel, Bloch-Marcel ein. Ich bräuchte jedoch noch mehr Bsp. Fällt vielleicht jemanden eine weitere Freundschaft ein die scheitert?

Gerhard Meier schreibt in seinem Roman Borodino (BS 1417) Seite 93f: Marcel Proust beschreibt in seinem Roman Auf der Suche nach der verlorenen Zeit, wie er mit seiner kranken Großmutter nach Hause zurückgekehrt sei. Die Sonne sei im Sinken gegriffen gewesen; sie habe auf eine endlose Mauer gestrahlt, an welcher der Wagen vorübergefahren, bevor er zu der Straße gelangt sei, in der sie gewohnt hätten; der Schatten der Pferde und des Wagens, die die untergehende Sonne darauf abgezeichnet habe, habe auf dem roten Hintergrund ausgesehen wie ein Totenwagen auf einer pompejanischen Terrakotta.
Diese Stelle würde ich gerne in Prousts Roman nachlesen.

zufällig habe ich in der "recherche" alle Worte, die Erinnerung lauten angestrichen und konnte so nach einem Schnelldurchlauf herausdinden, dass die Stelle in Bd V, S. 203 der edition suhrkamp (Rechel Mertens Übers.) sich befindet. Sie heißt etwas anders, aber der Sinn ist der gleiche, wohl eine andere Übersetzung:
" gewisse Erinnerungen sind wie gemeinsame Freunde, sie bringen eine Art Versöhnung zuwege;...."
Das sollte eigentlich passen.Es geht um Legrandin und die Vivonne.

Liebe Yarisha, auch ich bin Dozentin an der Universität und finde dein Thema sehr interessant. Der Ansatz wurde in der Proust-Forschung Ansatzweise auch schon verfolgt. Hinweise kannst du z.B. bei Genette finden und auch im 2002 erschienenen "L'univers constellé de Proust, Joyce et Faulkner". Viel Erfolg!

Hallo Yarisha, als ex-Dozent denke ich, dass Du Deine Arbeit selber schreiben solltest - ist ja sozusagen der Zweck der Übung! Jenseits davon jedoch: nein, ich glaube nicht, dass es sinnvoll ist, Marcels Persönlichkeit als "gespalten" zu betrachten. Mein Eindruck war vielmehr, dass er Einstein und Heisenberg vorausempfindet. Die Persönlichkeit ist keine Gegebenheit, die sich jetzt&hier betrachten ließe, sondern beschreibt eine Raumzeitkurve, die als Ganzes eben nur unter Einbezug ihrer Entwicklung sinnvoll betrachtet werden kann - deshalb die ständigen Rück- und Vorausgriffe. Soviel zu Einstein. Außerdem unterliegt die Persönlichkeit der Heisenbergschen Unschärferelation: je genauer man einen Aspekt betrachtet, desto unsicherer werden die anderen. Heisenberg hatte Glück: er brauchte nur zwei Aspekte (Ort und Impuls) zu unterscheiden. Die Persönlichkeit jedoch hat im allgemeinen reichlich davon - alle unscharf, ein Flickwerk (Prousts Schlüsselbegriff: Kaleidoskop) aus schlecht definierten (weil nur als Erinnerungen verfügbaren) Einzelerfahrungen, das insgesamt die Persönlichkeit im Ungreifbaren ansiedelt (man denke an die unfaßbare Albertine, die - in ihrer Rolle als ein Albert - die Unbestimmbarkeit des Ichs Marcels und damit Prousts widerspiegelt). Picasso ist übrigens ein weiteres Kind aus diesem relativistischen Quanten-Hort. Die beiden haben sich zwar gekannt und einander geschätzt, aber die Gemeinsamkeit wird wohl erst im Rückblick erkennbar. (Die Rel.-Theorie zumindest ist in der frz. Intellektuellen-Szene auf fruchtbaren Boden gefallen, der durch den populären (ja, das gibt's in Fr.!) Mathematiker Poincaré (mit dem sich Prousts guter Bekannter Valéry gründlich auseinandergesetzt hatte) und einen zu der Zeit durchaus modischen Kultur-Relativismus vorbereitet war (dazu könnte man sich auch mal Prousts Einstellung zur jüdischen Teilkultur anschauen)). Picasso, den Proust ebenfalls kannte und bewunderte, wird übrigens auch als ein Kind dieser relativistischen Krippe erkennbar, wenn man nur mal genau hinzuschauen versucht (die "Demoiselles d'Avignon" sind kaum Anderes als die vielfältige Albertine bzw. als Prousts "Demoiselles de Caen"). -- Konsens gibt es in den Geisteswissenschaften nicht; es gibt nur einen Gedanken, den zu verfolgen lohnt und den man dann auch verfolgen sollte. -- Hoffe, Anregungen gegeben zu haben.
